Reading and speaking (with my partner)
So, I made another post talking about some resources for books and stuff, which I’m quoting at the bottom here.
However, I’ve finally started reading 活着 and it’s going relatively well! I guess the software I used to analyze words I needed to learn didn’t catch everything. So, while I’m reading, I’m still highlighting and add a bunch of words to My Dictionary.
A compromise I’ve essentially made with my partner is that I read 活着 out loud to him. This is good because
- I get speaking practice (sort of)
- I’m forcing myself to actually pronounce words that I’ve been learning
- He catches the words I’m saying wrong because they’re duoyinzi or because they’re rare enough that I can’t find them in the Dictionary on here
- I get to practice building the natural(ish) tone of reading stories
I mentioned the free books because the show The First Frost is said to be a good show and an even better novel. I just can’t get through even the third episode!! It’s definitely a slow build type of show, but I guess I just don’t enjoy the cold and indifferent versus the one wondering ‘what if’ trope. I’m gonna try to push through.
Anyway!! I found the book for free online. I was not about to spend $25 USD to order it when I KNOW real well that people overseas are getting it for less than $5.
