Why 妹妹 is little sister and not younger sister?

Hi,
I noticed (after I failed 2 time in a row) that the meaning of the word 妹妹 was little sister. This feel odd because the character 妹 is younger sister and both the character 弟 and the word 弟弟 are younger brother.
Is there a real reason that I missed, or just an oversight?

Welcome!

Yeah, the primary meaning of 妹妹 should be younger sister to match the primary meaning of the character. I’ll fix this in the next curriculum update, while also retaining “little sister” as an alternate meaning (same as it is already for 妹).

In the mean time you can also add “younger sister” as a word user synonym so that it is always marked as correct in your reviews.

Thanks for the report, please feel free to let us know of any other discrepancies you come across. :+1:
