二零一二年我第一次开始学习汉语。那个时候我学的很差。我没有每天学习，我没有学汉字，而且我没有听很多。但是我学习拼音和声调，我的发音不错。
但是我放弃很快因为我有了小孩子（两个儿子）。他们出生的时候我没有时间，而且太累了！我不想工作后学习。
七年后我又开学习。这次我每天学了，我听很多中文，学了很多汉字，每周上课。我觉得我的水平HSK三四左右。我比较老，没有太多时间，所以我的进步不太快，但是我觉得很有意思。
最近我学习很多因为下个星期我要去中国，带了两个星期。我非常期待，但是我也一点害怕。我的情况有点奇怪 - 我的老婆是中国人，但是她三岁的时候来过澳大利亚。所以她真的是澳大利亚人。他的英语比我好啊哈哈。他跟他的父母总是说上海话，不是普通话，所以我的中国人的老婆不会说普通话！十五年前，她的父母回国，现在他们又住在上海。岳父母的英语不好所以我学习普通话。我已经去过四次，每次去上海。但是这次我们要带来我们的孩子们，除了上海，也会去张家界。我不知道如果我的中文水平是否足够有用。中国人会试试跟我的妻子说话，然后我需要回答哈哈。

今天我开始在广州， 但是我需要坐高铁去张家界。每次我和家人去一个地方，中国人都对我不看见。总是对我的妻子看然后说话。所以我没有用很多中文。但是在地铁站我一个人去柜台. 我问他们如果我需要车票还是只有护照？ 还有问什么站台等等。在出租车上也问司机一些问题。所有的人都可以明白我。但是我没有总是明白他们的回答哈哈。总是需要学习更多词语！
昨天晚上我的大儿子开始呕吐。早上四点钟。我对他觉得很抱歉。他非常不舒服。我们打算九点钟去张家界，但是他有时候还是呕吐，所以我们等一等了。十一点钟我的老婆告诉我-”今天他不可以去，我觉得你和小儿子一起去，我照顾大儿子”。我不想只有两个人，但是她insisted。如果两个人不去，然后没有人去 - 没办法。所以我和小儿子去了。
在公园我玩的一点开心。我喜欢跟儿子花时间，但是在那我们只看到了很多云，不看见漂亮的风景。我回家的时候打儿子还是生病。不太好的天。希望明天更好！

Small grammar point: Remember the verb + result pattern
不看见 → 看不见 (action: look, result: don’t see)
You can also add 没 to the front of 看见 (didn’t see/haven’t seen)
More examples:
吃不完 (action: eat, result: don’t/can’t finish)
听不懂 (action: listen, result: don’t understand)
听不清楚 (action: listen, result: didn’t hear clearly)
You also use 不看见 （should be 看不见) to describe people not paying attention to you or looking at you. Re: above remember that 看不见 involves an action (looking) and a result (not seeing). In this case they don’t do the first action (they ignore you) so you can’t use the action result pair. You can just say 不看我 (they don’t look at [not see] me). Another good word you can use here is 不理 or 不在意 which means to not ackgnowledge/ignore.

Haha, yeah! I start working today here in Tokyo but for some reason I haven’t taken HH off of my bookmarks bar so have come in to check periodically and see what’s going on. Will probably jump on here and do some reviews every once in a while to keep the rust off so to speak.

昨天晚上他没有呕吐，我很开心。从开始病，这是第一次没有呕吐的夜晚。我希望我们可以去黄龙洞。但是他还是感觉很累。他不想走路很多。所以我的妻子和小儿子去，我照顾大儿子。下午三点钟他又呕吐，但是很小而且只有一次。
今天晚上八点钟我们回坐飞机去上海。飞机上只有两个小时，但是我还一点害怕。我妻子的家人住在上海，如果我们都在那，一切的事情很容易。他们可以照顾我们。找医生，买药，等等。我只有去他们。不会太久！
我们在上海，儿子感觉好多了，我的岳母也找到我最喜欢的菜。一切都很好。过去几天很难，很多担心，可是现在很好玩的。
我来上海的时候总是吃很多生煎包。我不是很复杂的人哈哈。我也喜欢很多不一样种的中国菜，但是生煎包是最好的。在上海很容易找到，在澳洲比较难，也比较难吃。所以我来上海需要吃很多，因为我知道下次回来会过那么久。
今天我和家人散步去很多地方。我觉得很累，而且我背有点疼，但是我还是开心。我岳母很喜欢跟我说普通话。她也告诉大家别说上海话所以我可以联系说和听普通话。我觉得她对我很友好。
晚上我妻子和儿子们去岳父母的家。他们做了晚饭给我们。我们吃河蟹，葱油饼，和蔬菜。我喜欢她们做的菜，但是我觉得蟹太麻烦了。很好吃但是也很难得到蟹肉。
我只有在上海呆三天，然后去日本。今天我们也要去了岳父母。父母洗了我们的衣服，非常方便。
晚饭吃了小杨生煎，还是我最喜欢的菜。昨天晚饭我们吃羊肉串，我妻子的最喜欢的菜。有时候我想一想如果我可以在上海带很久，比如一年。这样的话可以总是吃很好吃的菜，和买很便宜的东西。但是我的儿子们都作学校在澳洲。真的搬到中国太麻烦了，但是我可以想象。
今天我来到东京。从Osaka我和家人坐火车一起去这里。
对我来说火车比飞机好。更舒服，更容易，不无聊。 坐火车的时候可以看看外面，看见很有意思的东西。我非常喜欢看着风景。在飞机座位很小，外面没有很有意思额的东西。如果火车比飞机的时间差不多，我总是选择火车！
明天是我的最后在日本天。然后我和家人会一起回去澳大利亚。三星期的假期结束。我有点伤心，因为我很喜欢这个假期，去中国和日本玩的很开心。但是我非常期待回家。我想我的家，我的床，墨尔本的自来水。每次我去旅行，我刚刚回家的时候我的第一次活动是喝很多墨尔本的水。非常好喝。我也想自己做的菜。 三个星期一直吃外卖或者去饭馆。我喜欢但是现在我做了太多。只有想要在家做的菜。
以后我觉得我会回这个国家。我很喜欢中国，而且我的岳父母住在那里。我的妻子最喜欢日本所以我知道如果我们去中国的时候她会想要也去日本。
我很感谢我这么幸运。我知道大部分的人不可以看见世界，但是我可以。我希望所有的人可以去旅行！
Man tell the truth, are all these characters tought on this site just tell me for sure did you learn all things from this hanzi hero. just tell me brother. why dont we become language patterners im still struggling with hsk1 hanzi.
A significant amount of my ability to read/type characters comes from HH. I think it’s a great way to learn characters, and I wouldn’t be able to write out what’s above without it. However it’s not the only thing I needed. Two other important factors:
Doing HH as well as both of those things is a perfect combo for me. Without HH I don’t think I could write or read much at all, however without doing outside practise I also don’t think I’d remember nearly as much. So HH is critical, but not the only important part. I can’t just do one part (e.g. only HH, or only writing practise), it’s the combination that works to make progress.
你当然可以在HH上学到这左右的汉字，就要你天天努力。You can definitely learn all of these characters on HH, you just have to keep going every day.
I’d recommend while you’re on HSK1 just to learn 5 characters a day, or if that’s too much, do 5 characters every other day. Once you get to HSK2, you could probably learn 5-10 characters a day. The more characters that you learn, the easier it is to learn even more characters. Your brain has to adjust to the style, the patterns, the context, etc.
so can you even write chinese characters. I find it so diffucult i just learn how to recognize them but i would really also learn to write it down.
Hand write? Honestly not really. By write I mostly mean write on a computer/phone … so typing I guess. I used to be able to hand write about ~300 characters, these days it’s prob closer to 100 if not less.
When I was starting I did almost a fully year of Scritter which is setup to teach you to handwrite characters. I think it is good to get a little foundation in that (although you don’t need skritter, that was just an easy way). I found it really helped learn stroke order and common radicals really well by having to write them out. But unless you’re planning on sitting an exam that’s hand written you’ll pretty much never need it in my experience. Even the HSK exams these days have electronic versions where you can just type if you want to. So once you have the basics down, I don’t actually think it’s a decent time investment so I stopped trying. There are a lot of videos of Chinese people in China not always remembering how to hand write simple things (e.g. Here or here) so it’s clearly not really needed to be able to hand write everything for most people. It takes SOOOOOOooo long to get good at hand writing characters that you could invest that time somewhere else and make much more progress.
It depends on your goals of course - if you’re into calligraphy etc then go for it. But I mostly want to be able to talk to people so i have no real use for it.
