Switching between Simplify and Traditional Characters

Hi admin,

I’m studying the simplified characters here. If I switch to traditional ones, will the progress of simplified ones be kept intact, so that I can switch back later on?

Thanks in advance

Yes, your “simplified” course progress will remain exactly as it is, except for one case.

When the characters are exactly the same across the courses, progress is synced every time you switch.

So if you switch to Traditional, do a review or learn one that is an exact match back in the Simplified course, then switch back to Simplified course, that progress will be synced.

In short, you will never “lose” progress but instead “share” progress between the courses when they’re essentially the same items

What you mean, for example, the character 天 already reach Master in simplified, when I switch to traditional, that character remain at Master? Or can you give another example?

Exactly. You wouldn’t have to learn or review that character

Another example would be — if this was at say, Journeyman, and then you reviewed it enough in the Traditional course to Expert, that progress would sync back to the Simplified course when you switch back.

A character is considered exact when the components and sounds are the same. So, in the case of the Traditional variant is . Because the components are different, the progress is not synced between them.

This “syncing” applies to sounds, components, and words too. If they’re the same, we sync. We recently added a [s] or [t] on item pages so you can see the corresponding variant in the other course. But in short, you won’t lose progress, only share progress when it makes sense to, so you don’t have to relearn or re-review anything :+1:
