Hi guys! I know that going from reading to listening is a big barrier for a lot of Chinese learners. I was thinking about a way to maybe make this a little bit of a smoother and easier process. I’m imagining an optional review section which will play audio of words users have already learned, who will then be prompted to answer either the Hanzi/Pinyin transcription of the audio or the English translation. I know that there is already audio for all of Hanzi hero, but I feel like there is a big difference between passive listening and actively recalling words. I think this would allow users to more concretely connect the sounds of the words they know to the Hanzi. I know for me personally that listening is so much more intimidating than reading since you have to process information in near-real time. I think this system could help learners ease more smoothly into that process by limiting the scope of audio samples only to words that the user knows. When I am listening, most of the times that I miss things it’s because I feel like I haven’t learned the words or characters yet, but a lot of the times I have and I just haven’t ever been forced to recall them before. I think this could be a great way to help students ease more into listening. Let me know what you think or if you have any feedback! Thanks.
