Mobile App Suggestion

Hi HanziHero

First of all, thank you very much for creating this website. It tremedously helps with my Chinese learning.

I would like to ask a few questions:

  1. Do you consider to make mobile app version?
  2. Do you consider to merge all HSK words (roughly 11k words) into HanziHero?
  3. Else, there are some characters (particularly of higher HSK level) that does not have or have less than 2 words associated with it, and I do recommend to have at least 2 words per character.

At least on Android with Firefox, you can install the hanzihero.com website as an progressive web app (PWA); look for the “install” or “save to home screen” option. It gives you basically all the benefits of an app while saving the developers the effort of developing for specific platforms.

  1. We hope one day to make an app, but have no immediate plans. We want to focus first on fine-tuning the main experience and curriculum before taking on additional work.
  2. At the very least, we plan to add the majority of the HSK words that fit into our system. For example, if a character contains two possible pronunciations, we only teach the most common pronunciation, limiting our selection of words to be those that fit that pronunciation. We have some ideas on how to get around this limitation by making our system a bit more flexible, but even with this existing constraint we believe we should be able to cover ~80% of the words in the HSK, if not more.
  3. Yep, most of my time spent working on HanziHero is slowly expanding our collection of words, first focusing on getting 1-2 words per character in the first pass. No promises, but we believe we should get to that minimum level of coverage potentially by the end of this calendar year, if not a bit after that. I view the HanziHero curriculum as something that will improve and expand almost endlessly over the next year or two, as it has for the past year or two prior as you can see in our regular updates: Simplified Curriculum Updates - HanziHero Community (note that we had regular, in fact almost daily, updates even before we created this forum to post them, stretching back another year and change to June of 2022)
