Looking for reading resources

Basically the title.

Decided one day that I wanted to make my time playing Hoyo games more productive by working on my Chinese! As for some context, I do have (some) exposure to Chinese, at least the speaking and listening part of it, since I converse with my family in mixed Mandarin and English. However, I’m essentially completely illiterate (hence why I’m using HanziHero to learn characters), and my knowledge of vocabulary and grammar is also pretty weak, probably around the preschool level.

I’ve studied Japanese in the past, so I’m familiar with there being resources like graded readers, etc, for practicing reading and listening. I wonder if anyone here has any suggestions for reading resources, preferably using the traditional script, and also having an audio playback feature, since at the moment I can understand more from listening than from reading. Any suggestions are welcome!

I’m hoping that from doing more reading alongside HanziHero, I’m able to train my brain to be able to process Chinese fast enough both audially and visually such that I can enjoy Hoyo games entirely in Chinese haha

You can take a look at the resources in Heavenly Path’s Comprehensive Reading Guide (specifically the first section for < 1000 characters) – they go through a bunch of different options. You may need to poke around to see if they have traditional Chinese versions. Off the top of my head I know that Mandarin Companion graded readers and Du Chinese both have traditional Chinese options. The latter (Du Chinese) is probably the most useful if you’re ok with paid resources and want audio along with your reading.

Also, if you haven’t already, I would highly recommend getting the Pleco app, which is mainly a dictionary but has (paid, one-time) add-ons for a document reader, TTS, OCR, etc. It’s pretty worth it to get the basic bundle IMO if you’re serious about improving your Chinese. I’m also a heritage speaker (though Cantonese) and I’ve found it really useful!
