咨 is one of my leech words. I ALWAYS type in “inquire” but it means “consult”, isn’t that almost the same thing? I’ve been debating adding “inquire” as one of my own definitions, but just wanted to check with the crowd whether I’m illiterate.
There is nuance between inquire and consult. “Inquire” is more like ask a question, while “consult” is specifically about seeking advice or referring to a source e.g. “consult the docs” or “I consulted with my doctor”.
“Consult” can feel like it implies a meeting, too, while inquire feels more like an individual question, thus why “consulted with my doctor” sounds a little more right than “I consulted my doctor”, though both are still correct/sound correct.
Maybe you could try a synonym of “seek advice” if that is easier to remember than “consult”. You could also get away using “inquire”. There is a distinction, but I don’t think the distinction is grounds to mark 咨 outright wrong
