Hanzi Hero for HSK exams

Hello everyone, I have been using HH now for a couple of weeks and have around 1/3 of the HSK 1 characters and was hoping of doing the HSK 2 exam in 5-6 months. I know that at a pace of 20/day it should not be a problem to complete it. Nonetheless I know the exam is about more than just reading/writing and was hoping some one here could maybe share their experience on how to complement HH to prepare for a HSK exam. I was thinking of maybe Pimsleur for the listening? Any advice?

Hi! I came to HH after having a few years of learning Chinese on my own. I think HH is a great supplement for learning the characters and vocabular for HSK. I used it to help me study for the HSK4, and I think it definitely helped me fast-track my learning.

One downside is that there are some characters that have more than one pronunciation, and HH will not capture that since the cards are based off of the more common pronunciation of the characters.

I do want to stress that you’ll want to be simultaneously writing down the words you’re learning and getting wrong with pen/pencil and paper every single day. Writing helps you solidify the word’s structure, meaning, and helps you remember it much much more than just doing the daily reviews.

Pimsleur is a heated topic in the language learning community lol. BUT!!! I’m actually a huge advocate for it. When you’re not in a classroom environment, it can be really hard to find a partner to help you get started with speaking. My opinion, it is an excellent way to get started with getting used to producing the sounds, and speaking full sentences. People argue that the sentences or vocab are outdated. To me, that doesn’t matter, because later in your language-learning journey, you’ll be able to “update” yourself anyway. I recommend that you go for it.

Thanks a lot for the advice!
