Hi! I apologize if I’m just missing something, but as far as I’ve been able to figure out, the Foreman element represents two different elements, the three stroke “go” element and a four stroke “hit” element, to give the meanings as I’ve been able to discern them. I’m guessing HanziHero calls them both “Foreman” because HanziHero focuses on recognition rather than production, but I have to say that seems a little shortsighted. At any rate, has anyone come up with a way to distinguish these two foremen that sticks in the memory? Thanks for any help!
Hello! Could you provide screenshots or links to the items/pages you’re referring to? When I look up “foreman” I only get one item.
Hi! There is indeed only one item. That item, though, represents two different elements: the “Foreman” in 备 and the “Foreman” in 放. Unless I’m misunderstanding something, HanziHero treats those elements as the same element, when in fact they’re not the same element.
Here are links, and I also looked up the Kangxi numbers;

Ah I see what you mean. Yeah there are a few components like this that are generalized and lead to this issue. I’m probably not gonna be of help since I purposely skip the components on HH. But, I’d suggest maybe using your own mnemonics for this.
The mnemonics fade away as you become more familiar with the characters. I am not sure this does any long term damage.
My way to deal with something like this is to memorize a very certain foreman. Like the foreman from the coal mine (all covered in coal dirt and with a lantern helmet) or a foreman at pyramid construction ancient Egyptian foreman.
I found a solution that works for me: I call the three-stroke element “Threeman” and the four-stroke element “Foreman.” Threeman is kind to the main character in the story, while Foreman is mean. ![]()
