I am a student using the Integrated Chinese 4th edition textbooks in my courses, and was wondering if there are plans or features that I’ve missed that would allow an easier integration (pun not intended) of non-HSK lesson plans into Hanzihero? Like perhaps some form of making your own curriculum?
Not something to put onto y’all to do, but something where I take my own hours to format and put together a list of every character and word present in these textbooks, in order of appearance, and then plug that into your algorithm to allow frequency sorting or whatever else within a structured lesson format with beautiful SRS.
I’m in absolute love with the mnemonic system y’all have crafted that can link together pronunciation, meaning, components, and tone, and I’ve been looking for a tool like this ever since I began my Chinese-learning journey. All I would need to be happier is some way for me to plug in each Chapter/Lesson’s words and characters into the format you have made, and have it help me with spaced repetition.
I have tried to accustom to Anki and flashcards but they’re just not for me. This software really filled the exact niche I didn’t know I was looking for until I found it, and want to figure out how I can expand it to fit into my university courses as well as beyond.
At some point we want to start integrating “character lists” or “word lists” into the platform, which would have the lists of characters/words of some of the most popular resources, and a way of easily selecting those lists so that the lesson order roughly follows those resources as much as possible. However, we have no definite timeline on when we will begin this work.
In the mean time, one way to approximate this is to prioritize characters (or words) that you come across in your textbooks. A character (or word) that is prioritized will be brought to the front of the lesson queue so that it can be learned as soon as possible.
(When we add lists that one can “subscribe” to, behind the scenes it will effectively just be doing this manual prioritization for you for each word/character contained within said list, saving everyone time and effort but effectively working the same way.)
Due to the hand-crafted nature of most of the system, we will certainly be missing many words from your textbook! However, we are almost done with fully rolling out a feature (currently in beta) that allows one to also learn most of the 100k+ words in the free-and-open CEDICT through HanziHero as well, and that can cover nearly any remaining gaps. These won’t be “supercharged” and “handcrafted” like the other items in the curriculum, but it allows one to do most of their reviews through HanziHero if they so desire.
I hope that helps clarify things. Let me know if you have any other questions.
