So, at the moment, the search feature is just for HanziHero curriculum items. So, it makes it easy to look up items by their definition, or their pinyin.
However, dictionary items (that I’ve already added) are not searchable. Would it be possible to incorporate it as part of the search bar, or to have a separate search bar within the My Dictionary page?
Yeah, there definitely is an issue of looking through all the dictionary items you add after you pass a certain threshold. The current Dictionary Search doesn’t help with this, seeing as there are no filters for “learned” or “queued” or anything else.
Additionally, even if there were these filters on the Dictionary Search page, it doesn’t provide one’s own definitions or primary definition, or its current status/srs stage. Maybe if srs stage/status was integrated into the Dictionary Search, along with filters, and an easy way to access this search whether on mobile or not, could be a path forward.
I could see us integrating the main search with the dictionary search through some link or shortcut which searches the dictionary instead. Or at least a redirect with the same search query. But this doesn’t solve the current issue
There is merit in integrating “known” dictionary words to the main curriculum search, too I think the main reason why there are two searches is because of the multiple definitions and needing to display those, but that need falls away once one “adds” a dictionary item
EDIT: another reason is due to multiple pinyin representations of the same set of characters
Whatever the solution is, something needs to be done here to make searching one’s dictionary words a lot easier. Thanks for the feedback!
