(Feature Request) HSK 2.0 study path

Every other learning resource I know of is based on the HSK 2.0 standard. (Duchinese, Hellochinese, Superchinese, Immersi, The Chairmans Bao)
Would it be feasible to have an alternative path that teaches characters following HSK 2?

We’ll need to first look at the two character lists to see how much they differ. Many resources teach HSK 2.0 currently for legacy reasons, but also because the HSK 3.0 tests for levels 1-6 are not out yet. However, they should be out within the next year or so, at which point those resources will probably transition over to 3.0.

I looked into it fairly deeply when it was first announced and they’re not really very different at all - HSK3 just has more, but all the HSK2 stuff is there and roughly the same order (except for very few exceptions like fax machine etc which were removed). However the thing that is different to other apps is how HH orders them, rather than because the HSK2 vs 3 word list is different.

HH just goes ā€œhere’s all of HSK1ā€, sort by complexity now learn. Within those first 300 characters are characters like ꈑ, which aren’t super simple component/stroke wise obviously don’t show up first. From memory ꈑ shows up when you’re already over halfway through the level 1 list. ꈑ being in level 1 in both lists doesn’t really matter - you open up HelloChinese etc and ꈑ is the very first word, in HH it isn’t. Even if HH had and HSK2 path, ꈑ still wouldn’t be the first character you teach due to it’s complexity. Because the HSK2 list is shorter you might see it slightly sooner, but still it’d be like the 90th character- it’s never going to be character #1, so the order will always feel different.

Personally I don’t think it’s a huge deal because the benefits from going component first are greater than the downsides from not following a more ā€œmy first sentenceā€ type order. And you get past the point where the order really matters pretty quick.

(Edit: Found the info graphic about how the HSK2 words fit into HSK3: https://www.reddit.com/r/ChineseLanguage/comments/mkvq3j/new_and_existing_hsk_vocabulary_compared/)

This request would be really nice to have.
For example with HanziHero I’ve already learned 600+ characters (compelte HSK 1, 200 characters from HSK 2, 100 characters from HSK 3…).
Now when I decided to prepare for HSK 3 - 2.0 exam, I’ve noticed that I am not familiar with at least 123 characters from the exam, so I had to prioritize the items one by one, which is definitely time consuming.

I plan on taking HSK 3 2.0 in a couple months as well. Would definitely be nice if hanzi hero could provide a more convenient experience for those of us looking to test

Thanks for the additional feedback! I think this may be solvable by having ā€œlistsā€ in HanziHero, allowing one to easily prioritize e.g., the entire set of HSK3 (2.0) characters (and words). We hope to add this at some point, but no definite timeline quite yet.

That would be a great feature! Is there any kind of roadmap on what is currently being added? I see there’s a roadmap section on the forum but it hasnt been posted in since last year

Not currently, unfortunately. We did indeed add a section to our forum some time ago that maybe we can revitalize in the coming months. Or maybe a weekly or monthly post that outlines our current direction could be another alternative. :+1:

Yes please! I’m often wondering what’s coming up next. Some sort of newsletter would be awesome
