The current mnemonic for death is “Hanging from the 亠 lid is an upside down scythe, which represents 亡 death” which is totally abstract and definitely hard to remember.
I would suggest combing the well established 匚 box and a 亠 lid components to make a “coffin” or “urn” as these both well present death. The character even looks like half of the sarcophagus.
For example:
“After 亡 death person is being put in a coffin which is just a simple 匚 box which upper part is a 亠 lid.”
