I think it would be great to have the ability to add your own words in the dictionary often times I’ll go in looking to learn a word and it doesn’t show up, so I have to go outside HH to learn it. Happens with some surprisingly common ones. Like 法国吐司 - French toast. I could make it myself with no problem, but there isn’t a feature for it.

It would be nice, but in the meantime be aware that you can often find components in the dictionary. 法国 (france) and 吐司 (toast) are both in the dictionary. Another common case is I find a vocab word that is commonly with erhua such as 干活儿 which is not in the dictionary, but 干活 is.

I think this is a great idea.
When I was trying to create my own word flashcards, I went down this rabbit hole of automatic card generation in Anki. I’ve since landed on using Migaku instead for my flashcard generation (though it’s not perfect). The more I use Hanzi Hero and Migaku, the more I’ve started to compartmentalize each: HH for character (plus some words to reinforce those characters, but mainly characters) and Migaku for words.
It is annoying (and expensive) to use two different systems though and I don’t get the pinyin typing practice with Migaku.
