Can we get alternate pronuciations to trigger mistake prevention?

This makes me sad:

I understand that right now the system cannot handle multiple meanings for a single character so I’m not asking for it to be marked as correct, or for mnemonic changes or anything. Can it simply show the black mistake prevention popup with a message like “oops, you want the other pronuciation” until you put in the expected pronunciation?

95% of the time I see this character it’s 快乐 (and DuChinese has quite a few stories where a character is called 乐乐 le4le) so I’d love for it not to mark le4 as wrong. 还 as hai2 is another I “get wrong” regularly - just prompt me instead of going red etc.

I agree that this is a little annoying, but at the same time I see value in asking for a less frequent but still very frequent meaning for a character. As we see the most common meaning so often is good to have a reminder of another frequent alternative.

Yeah, this is something we have actually discussed before internally! I see no reason to do this, it just requires me to go through all of the characters we have and manually marking the alternate pinyin responses we want to block, hence why I’ve not done it quite yet.

I’ll file a ticket in our backlog for this. :+1:

It may also be worth thinking about supporting multiple pronunciations with multiple meanings. One way to do it would be to include all the aspects in the mnenonic. The review would have to become more like the lesson with the pronunciation and meaning on the same page. For characters with multiple meanings and pronunciations, there would be multiple pairs of pronunciation and meaning input boxes.
